Vincent Jackson perplexes me (W9 Recap)

What have you done for me lately?

Chargers wideout Vincent Jackson scores 32 Sunday vs. Green Bay.

Vincent Jackson may have had some less-than-satisfying performances this year, but his owners aren't complaining about it now.  V-Jax has exploded twice now, this time against the defending champs for 32 points.  More on Jackson later in this post, but the games this week were once again harmonious.  Its so nice to know that people are listening to my message.  For the second week in a row, the top five point scorers were all awarded with a victory.

The stars of My Team - had a lot of disappointing performances in the game of the week.  With super-rookie Cam Newton on bye, quarterback seemed to be the position of concern.  Andy Dalton filled that gap beautifully however with his first career 3 touchdown performance.  Ironically it was Fred Jackson and the rest of team - that  could never quite get going.  Suck for Luck beat team Favre and has now won 2 out of his last 3.  I was looking at SFL's roster today and I think he has the 3rd or 4th best team (when healthy).  Donkey Power had a strong win over the Fumblers (sans "Run All-day DMC").  RIP Al Davis had a convincing win over the ConVicks launching him into second place in the standings.  Our playoff race is officially heating up.  Donkey Power, BigTime Johnson and the Fumblers all seem to be eyeing that fourth and final playoff spot.  With 5 games remaining, its looking more and more like the Hoisters, Al Davis and "the minus" will be 3 of the 4 teams representing the lonely division in the BIG TIME postseason quest for the Golden Hunk championship trophy.

WEEK 9: Awards
Owner of the week: BigTime Johnson (122pts)

Congrats to top notch owner Ryan Johnson and his namesake destroyed team Wright On in a 122-55 drubbing.  Even team WO's bench managed to outscore the starters.  It has been a tough season for team Wright On, and even Tom Brady has appeared mortal the past 5 games.  If we've learned anything this season, its that team woes are best fixed with a name-change.  (CJ2YPC? The Brady Bunch?  KnoGain Morenos?)  But enough about Wright On.  Johnson got a much-needed win to stay in the playoff hunt and saw major improvement in his star quarterback Phillip Rivers.

Player of the week: Vincent Jackson, 32pts (BigTime Johnson)
Consistent? No.  But no one can deny the talent that Jackson has.  Johnson was able to double-up on three separate touchdown connections from Rivers to Jackson.  Jackson now has 94 points on the season.  That is good for 6th best at his position.  He also has 77 of those 94 points in three games.  When he's on, Jackson appears to be the best receiver in fantasy.  I'm don't know if i'd want to own him or not, but I'd rather not play against him in the playoffs.
[Honorable Mention: Aaron Rodgers, 30pts]

Double-take Award: Willis McGahee, 28pts (My Team -)
McGahee ran like he was a senior back at "the U," piling up 163 yards and 2 scores.  McGahee is now the unquestioned starter for the Broncos and has been drastically higher than his draft-day value.
[Honorable Mention: Julio Jones, 28pts]

Coaching move of the week: Suck for Luck
Late in the week team Suck for Luck added Eric Decker to play as a third receiver.  Decker grabbed a touchdown as was good for ten points and a win for Team SFL.  Decker also seems to have good value going forward as a possible red zone target for Tim Tebow.

Special Teams Award: David Akers, 18pts (Fumblers)
It wasn't enough for a Fumbler win, but David Akers did more than his part hitting all extra points, and 4 for 4 on field goals including a 50-yarder.  Akers is the #3 fantasy kicker in the BIG TIME and is 17 for 19 on the season.
[Honorable Mention: Neil Rackers, 14pts]

The Weekly Haha Award: DeSean Jackson, 0pts (ConVicks)
D-Jax was slightly more disappointing than V-Jax in week 9, gaining just 26 yards and loosing a fumble.    Worth nothing this week, Jackson has been quieter than a mouse peeing on cotton over his last 3 games.
[Dishonorable Mention: Chiefs D, -1pts]

  1. Each post starts with a witty sports-themed title followed by a picture of a football player I don't know, in a jersey I don't recognize. Therefore I have a hard time telling if you have a new post at a glance.
