2014 BTFF Draft Recap

Another year another successful draft.  This time, an auction style where we had a few owners missing, but still plenty there to add our own flair.  Some of my favorite moments included Dave of team FormerlyKnownAsFavre, who showed up late, spent $175 in 3 minutes and left.  ...it was a glorious three minutes though.  Thanks to Ben Roby who jumped in last minute and will be replacing team Ott and Ian Anderson who will be replacing the Skins team this season.  Time for grades.  Let it be known that these are flawless and not up for debate.

The Fumblers
(Caleb Davis)
The mighty Fumblers came out strong early spending $108 on LeSean McCoy and Calvin Johnson.  Wise decision to lock up the two most important positions in fantasy and a dubious duo I like to call Shady McTron.  We'll see if putting that much stock into two guys pays off.  The third highest paid player on the team makes $12 so he didn't really overpay for anyone unless you think it was megatron.  Many of those second tier players will need to become valuable role players in order to consistently win weeks.  Rumor has it Caleb is looking for another mid-grade quarterback if anyone is willing to trade him one.
Best Value- LeSean McCoy ($52)
Worst Value- Julian Edelman ($12)
Overall Grade- C+

Forgetting Brandon Marshall
(Casey Wright)
Casey sat out the opening salvo and was the last owner to make a selection at the 21st nomination. I like the early purchases as he grabbed two top wideouts in Julio Jones and Brandon Marshall (let the wordplay begin).  Wright went for depth and has it in spades.  His runningbacks Ball and Ellington are talented and unproven, but if they can stay productive for 16 games then no one will be Forgetting Brandon Marshall.  (see what I did there?)
Best Value- Brandon Marshall ($33)
Worst Value- Lamar Miller ($7)
Overall Grade-  A

Men of Troy
(Troy Anderson)
Troy nutted-up early by winning the vicious bidding for Adrian Peterson.  Then he kept the hammer down and grabbed Jimmy Graham and AJ Green.  Troy went full boar on the stars and scrubs strategy, owning ten $1 players.  Boldin and Hopkins may not be capable enough to be starting wide receivers.
Best Value- AJ Green ($37)
Worst Value- Adrian Peterson ($65)
Overall Grade- B-

My Team -
(Rick Stammer)
Rick autodrafted once again and got some mid and late round bargains.  The QB position is a little shaky with only Romo on the roster.  His RB position is both talented and deep, but its really the only position he will consistently win each week unless you count the Seahawks D.
Best Value- Tony Romo ($2)
Worst Value- Percy Harvin ($14)
Overall Grade- C+

Jumbo Gumbo
(Paul Hovey)
Paul locked up the RB position with big boppers Jamaal Charles and Matt Forte.  Then grabbed LaVeon Bell for another $34 just in case.  He may or may not have been price gouging.  Despite the error, he did a solid job rounding out the rest of his team.  Although spending $143 on the runningback position is probably not what he had in mind.
Best Value- Steve Smith ($2)
Worst Value- Paying any price for LeVeon Bell after already having 2 of the top 4 runningbacks.
Overall Grade- B-

FormerlyKnownAsFavre
(Dave McConnell)
Only 5 of his players were over $2, but the good news is Peyton Manning and Coach McConnell are reunited for another year.  Sure his #2 receiver may be Jarrett Boykin but maybe they just plan on running the ball a lot.  Other than the black hole that is the wide receiver position, FKA Favre should actually be fine. (He won't be fine)
Best Value- Reggie Bush ($23)
Worst Value- TY Hilton ($10)
Overall Grade-  D+

Team "Ben Roby"
(Ben Roby)
The yet-to-be-named team Roby auto drafted as well.  He got a solid deal with their first pick of Marshawn Lynch.  Andre Johnson, Keenan Allen and Marques Colston is a triumvirate that should hold their own.  Overall there's not a lot of scary names on the roster, but team ___________ is a deep team who should compete and potentially make the postseason.
Best Value- Marshawn Lynch ($47)
Worst Value- Doug Martin ($42)
Overall Grade- B

Hunk Hoisters
(Luke Harden)
Textbook auction tactics yielding the fantasy team of the century!!! Who is this guy!?!
... I forgot to draft a backup for Rob Gronkowski which may hurt me since he plays 5 games a year.  I also lost a bidding war over Andre Ellington, the one guy I came into the draft committed to buying. (Yes Casey, expect a trade offer in your inbox.) I also got a couple guys when I was just trying to inflate their price, but hey, nobodies perfect.  What I did like was ending up with 2 of the top 4 WRs and Andrew "cool hand" Luck.  I'm riding him and his neck-beard all the way to the playoffs baby.
Best Value- Demaryius Thomas ($37)
Worst Value- Danny Woodhead ($3)
Overall Grade-  B+

Team "Ian Anderson"
(Ian Anderson)
Well, he can go 8 deep at wide receiver if thats a good thing.  This was also primarily an auto-draft team and each selection was solid value.  Anderson's problem he put only $42 into the entire RB position and $1 into the QB spot.  Ben Tate and Steven Jackson need to be both healthy and good for the entire year for this team to hold up.
Best Value- Phillip Rivers ($1)
Worst Value- Bishop Sankey ($7)
Overall Grade- D+

BigTime Johnson
(Ryan Johnson)
Aaron Rodgers AND Drew Brees??  Heck, the Fumblers think RJ spent too much on quarterbacks.  The price of doing business when you auto draft  gave Big Time Johnson 2 of the top 3 QBs in the league.  If he can find a second RB and TE Johnson will be competitive.  He needs a roster shakeup if he wants to be back in the playoff conversation.
Best Value- Drew Brees ($34) and Aaron Rodgers ($39)
Worst Value- Drew Brees AND Aaron Rodgers
Overall Grade- C

2014 Inaugural Post

Welcome all, we're back for another year.  League Business:

  • As of this writing, we have 9 confirmed owners and we are working on a 10th.  I can get a 10th owner, my concern is getting a good tenth owner.  If you know someone who qualifies that adjective, let me know quickly.
  • Our league settings are very similar to last year.  Always check our league scoring and settings before you play, but our biggest changes this year are eliminating the flex position and going back to 3 wide receivers and also doing an auction format draft.
  • Men of Troy is heading up an optional league buy-in, for more details on that check the message board.
  • Again, the draft is at this time tomorrow, 10AM Central.  See ya'll there and yes they'll be an ESPN quality article coming out with draft breakdown after it occurs.  If anyone wants to put a 'story' on the site this year send it to me and I would love to put it on.
