Week 3 Recap

After putting up two solid point totals in a pair of losses, the Fumblers left nothing to chance this weekend.  155 points assured him the win and jumped him to 2nd in the season point total.  The gumbo continued his streak of excellence and is now the last undefeated team standing.

    This week's power rankings...

Week 4 GOTW-  Team Ott (2-1) vs. JUMBO Gumbo (3-0)
Team Ott has a chance for revenge in week 4 after Gumbo takes his top spot in the power rankings.  Ott will be down a QB thanks to the bye but Gumbo losses 2 packers of his own.  Kaepernick & Garcon lead their the soup to another victory.
[GOTW Prediction record = 2-0]

Getting into the byes where depth will be crucial for the next 9 weeks.  Good luck everyone.  If you haven't read the timeless Greg Zuerlein piece please do so below. I'll leave you all with the unsolvable eternal perplexing question:
Manning or Brees this week?   Good thing 9 of us don't have to choose. :0]

Legatron: the man, they myth, the leg. (a BIG TIME unnecessary extra)

What actually happens when Greg Zuerlein kicks (Camera slowed to 1/1000th speed)

Gregory Nelson Zuerlein came from most humble of beginnings, growing up as a small child in rural omaha Nebraska as the fourth child of Skip and Tanya Zuerlein.  Growing up on a farm brought trying times for young Gregory.  He was picked on often as a child, who often sat on the proverbial sidelines while his older brothers, who were stronger and faster played and fought and made the rules to anything that they were doing.  Greg was a misfit, a nerd.  Many a night Greg would go to bed sore and bruised from the beat-downs his older brothers, who were built like linebackers, would give him.
Yet Greg was not without dexterity.  From a very young age he found he possessed a certain aptitude for feats of foot.  This occurred one serendipitous evening when he decided to kick his oldest brother Skip Jr. off of him during another drubbing.  This classic case of self-defense was innocent enough, but from the kick Skip Jr. more or less saw the curvature of the earth.  Skippy J prettymuch rode the short bus to school after that, and it tore his family apart.
That fortuitous night also changed Greg, and he became a new, more confident man.  Zuerlein may have lost his family, but found his calling under the big top as he ran away with the circus where he would kick midgets through a right of fire and elephants onto other elephants.  Greg's real dream was realized 2 year later when an opportunity to do what his older brothers were never able to do was realized.  Yes the NFL came knocking in 2012 when Greggy the Leggy became the 171st pick of the NFL draft.
Greg now spends his days kicking pigskins for the highly acclaimed Jumbo Gumbo football squad and has recently been named co-captain.   "He can still place-kick an elephant 35 yards" recently claimed Gumbo's owner Paul Hovey.  "in fact he plays hacky-sack with one twice a week just for strength training."
Greg Zuerlein
The man, the myth, the legend.

Week 2 Recap; Ranks

The defending champs Team Ott continued its impressive start to their title defense in another victory in week 2.  An also impressive Big Time Johnson moves to 2-0 with another big scoring week.  The beloved Jumbo Gumbo is the third and final team remaining undefeated.
3 Notables
  1. Aaron Rodgers- (35pts) Lost in the shuffle in week 1, Rodgers reminded us that he's pretty good himself with a 35 point effort in week 2.  He's also proving that the loss of Greg Jennings is not going to be a problem.
    1. Michael Vick- (33pts) Is Vick back?!?!  Hes been the Vick of old during his first two matchups and looking like a real bargain for the Men of Troy as a 12th rounder.  Mike Vick will probably also be a fantasy producer so long as the next defensive lineman doesn't snap him in half.
    2. Trent Richardson- (7pts) -                                                                                              **BREAKING NEWS**                                                                                                  Just moments ago Mr. Richardson was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a 1st round pick.  As a 2nd round pick just weeks ago in the Big Time, Richardson has underachieved with only 14 points for the year, but does this trade up his value?  Richardson's previous offense certainly had its struggles this year and he appears to go to a much more capable offense headed up by Andrew Luck.

This week's power rankings... Johnson jumps up; Favre free-falls.

Week 3 GOTW-  Team Ott (2-0) vs. My Team - (0-2)
"Team -" is looking to subtract his foe as he attempts to avoid a catastrophic 0-3 start while Ott sits atop the BIG TIME power rankings grinning like Brett Favre in a wrangler commercial.  Aaron Rodgers & Randall Cobb vs. Cincinatti is key in this matchup for Ott.  I like the minus in an upset.
    [GOTW Prediction record = 1-0]

Good luck in week 3.  Can't wait for my Chieftans to move to 3-0 tomorrow night against Vick and that "spread eagle" offense.

    Week 1 POWER RANKINGS!

The fish and chips have returned from battle and we have a bunch of teams on pace for undefeated and winless seasons.  Please overreact accordingly.  Here's 3 notable individual performances in week 1 that are worthy of discussion.
    1. Peyton Manning- (46pts) The ultra-ironic elephant in the room is that Manning and his 46 points were sitting on Team Favre's bench for week 1.  I guess he had the last laugh though since he won his matchup with Brees at the helm and still owns Manning.  With the offensive talent Peyton has around him he seems to be as valuable as any fantasy quarterback going forward.  I'll go out on a limb and say no one scores more than 46 for us this year.  No quote yet from team owner McConnell on who's starting week 2 amidst this heated quarterback controversy.
Manning: The best QB team Favre has ever owned
      1. Colin Kaepernick- (30pts) Kaepernick has been a fantasy darling ever since his debut just over a year ago.  The potential is clearly there, however the argument is how he ranks compared to the elite QBs.  If week 1 is any indication, Kaepernick is proving he is more than a running quarterback as he threw for 400+ versus Green Bay in a game where he didn't need legs.
Kaepernick: The main ingredient in the tasty soup that is.. Jumbo Gumbo
      2. Adrian Peterson- (28pts) - I won't waste another spot singing Peterson's greatness again, but I feel like I have to this week.  He did the impossible last year coming back from ACL surgery and rushing for 2000 yards and Peterson just continues to amaze.  He never seems to lose a step or an ounce of power as he combined for 111 total yards and 3 touchdowns.
      Adrian freaking Peterson everyone

These power rankings will be based primarily on performance with roster talent also factored in slightly.   Major injuries or stars returning from injuries can also effect rank.

Good luck in week 2 to everyone but the Men of Troy.  I'm dubbing Skins v. Favre the game of the week.  Right now Favre has Brees pencilled in, we'll see if that changes.  Either way I'm going with SkinsWillWin2014 to move to 2-0.

NFL Season (finally) Kicks off tonight!

We get some real football tonight as the Ravens travel to the mile-high stadium in Denver in what should be a great matchup.  There are enough Ravens and Broncos in play to make it interesting in most fantasy match-ups and Peyton Manning should score plenty while sitting on team Favre's bench.  We'll see how they divvy up the pigskin between all that talented broncos offense.
Old man Manning reminded me of the Indianapolis days when he shot some of his best commercials.  Here might be my favorite.
Enjoy the game tonight and lets hope Sunday gets here quick!
